Trading platform THE SWEX

Single malt, not for consumption

In Sassenheim, there is a huge warehouse with thousands of bottles of whiskey. Not to drink, but to invest in. The older the whisky, the scarcer it is, which can lead to a higher value for the collector. The trading platform needed a technical update. And on that occasion, the user experience was immediately examined. As an extension of this project, the marketing site was also addressed.

Challenge: The project focused on developing and improving THE SWEX, an innovative online trading platform for trading exclusive bottles and casks of Scotch single malt whisky. The focus was on creating a platform with a high collectable value, with the challenge of implementing an attractive and functional design that meets the needs of a niche audience. The investigation showed that the 'game' of investing in Whisky was not clear in the old platform. This required new concepts to be devised, but within the framework of the supervisor and away from the atmosphere of an online shop.

Solution: This project included both technical updates and user experience improvements. Attention was also paid to the marketing site.

My role: I contributed to the project by making proposals based on user research. In addition, I participated in discussions about wireframes and had a role in designing the user interface in line with the newly established brand guidelines.

Process: The project focused on the pain points experienced by current customers and tried to design a process that would provide an improved user experience. The collaboration involved a remote development team from THE SWEX, Userproof researchers and Voorhoede developers. The result was a new interface that catered to a unique market — a platform for trading a product that is intended for consumption but traded as a collectible.

Result: This trading platform, where whisky is not consumed but exchanged, presented us with the challenge of attracting infrequent visitors while significantly increasing participation. The project provided an engaging and enriching experience for everyone involved, making it a remarkable and exciting endeavor.
